THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Due to the floods following heavy rains, the 110 KV substation at Kazhakoottam and transformers at various places were submerged in water.

Water entered the nearby substation when the Thettiyar stream overflowed. As part of safety measures, the 11 KV feeders from the substation, namely, Kozhivila, University and Oceanus, were switched off. Due to this, power supply was interrupted in some areas under Kazhakoottam, Kulathoor and Sreekaryam sections, which are supplying electricity through these feeders. The operation of Tales, Muttathara and Veli substations, which receive electricity from Kazhakoottam substation, was also stopped. Many houses and institutions in the capital were completely or partially flooded due to which electricity supply was stopped. More than 3000 household customers in various places did not get electricity yesterday.

Various places in Pettah section were mainly affected yesterday. Chennilod, Thotinkara, Arappura, Attara, Puthanpalam, IMA, Parassery, Ishalayam, Housing Board 1 and 2 transformers were completely shut down yesterday. Electricity was supplied in few areas under transformers in Pattoor, Anayara and Kollur.
