Isolated heavy rains to continue today; 10 districts on yellow alert

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a warning that isolated rain is likely to lash various places in the state today. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning and strong winds that may blow at a speed of up to 40 km per hour.

Meantime, the Central Meteorological Department has issued yellow alert in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad today. A chance of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. Heavy rain refers to rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.


The Meteorological Department warns that under no circumstances should one cross rivers, bathe or fish in rivers or other bodies of water during heavy rains.


Viewing, taking selfies or congregating on the overpasses above water bodies is not allowed. Residents living downstream of the dams should make preparations in anticipation of the possibility of water overflowing from the dams and evacuate, if necessary, as per the instructions of the authorities.
