MUMBAI: Police have arrested a youth for allegedly sending death-threat mails to industrialist Mukesh Ambani. The arrested person has been identified as 19-year-old Ganesh Ramesh Vanaparthy. He was arrested from Telangana. Mukesh Ambani received death threats through email on October 28.
In the mail sent to Mukesh Ambani, the youth threatened to shoot him if he failed to pay Rs 20 crore. After a few days, Ambani received another death threat mail demanding Rs 200 crores. Following this, the security personnel lodged a complaint with the police. The Gamdevi police in Mumbai then registered a case against the unknown person under section 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt in order to commit extortion) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The police have sought custody of the accused for detailed examination till November 8. Ambani and his family had received similar death threats last year as well.
