KOLLAM: "What should I do? Should I place a barricade and obstruct the ordinary people on the road? We should react against those who are making our lives difficult." These are the words spoken by a ward member while staging a unique protest against the KSEB over the frequent power cuts in his ward.
It was Ranjith, a BJP member of the Thalavoor panchayat in Kollam, who protested in a unique style against the KSEB. He protested by reaching the KSEB office and paying the electricity bills of nine families in the ward entirely in coins. The electricity bills of the nine families amounted to nearly Rs 7000. Ranjith paid this entire amount in coins at the KSEB office. With this, the KSEB employees got fed up counting the coins. This unique style of protest by the BJP ward member has become a hot topic on social media. Several people have come out praising Ranjith.
"KSEB and Water Authority are constantly troubling us by increasing tariffs every now and then. There are frequent power cuts in my ward. Power goes off at least 20 times a day in my ward. It would be better if the authorities disrupt the electricity for five hours continuously in a day," Ranjith said.
"Today, I brought the bill amounts of just nine houses. If KSEB does not find a solution to the issue, I will call a pickup autorickshaw and bring the bill amounts from 450 houses in my ward in coins. It will weigh around 50 kg. Not only KSEB, I am also planning to do the same against the Water Authority," he added.
