BEIJING: The police arrested a young man who lived under the staircase of a major shopping mall in China for months. According to the police, the said man had come to stay in the place as part of preparing for the university entrance examination.
The man also set up a tent, table, chair and computer in this space and the CCTV footage of the same has gone viral. He used an inverter to keep the electronic devices running.
Months before the exam, one of the mall's security staff found him, but allowed him to continue as he wanted to study. But the information came out when another guard, less sympathetic to the person's cause, found him. Following this, the police reached the spot and arrested him.
This is not an rare incident in malls around the world. Recently, in Poland, police also arrested a 22-year-old man who was hiding in the mall to commit theft.
