THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has registered a case in the incident where school students were made to stand under the scorching sun for Navakerala Sadas. NCPCR Chairman Priyank Kanoongo directed the Chief Secretary to take action and submit a report within five days.
The action follows the news about the government's order to bring children to the program. The NCPCR has stated that such acts are mental abuse and could affect the studies of children. The ABVP had earlier lodged a complaint with the NCPCR in connection with the incident.
Recently, a video of children standing in the sun went viral. In that, children wearing uniforms standing on the roadside can be seen chanting slogans and greeting the Kerala government when the bus carrying the Chief Minister and ministers passes by. The footage also shows teachers urging the children to say these.
Earlier, the education department's proposal to allow school children to participate in the Navakerala Sadas had attracted criticism. The instruction was given in a meeting of head teachers convened by Malappuram Tirurangadi DEO. This came after the High Court stayed the proposal to release school buses for the Navakerala Sadas.
