THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan has sent the seven bills passed by the state assembly for the consideration of the President. This decision of the Governor is when a case is pending in the Supreme Court against the Governor not taking a decision on the bills passed by the Kerala Assembly. The Supreme Court will consider this case tomorrow.
Lokayukta Bill, University Act Amendment Bill (two), Chancellor Bill, Cooperative Act Amendment Bill, Search Committee Expansion Bill and Cooperative Bill (MILMA) are sent for consideration by the President. The governor has signed the public health bill.
Kerala government had earlier pointed out in the Supreme Court that the Governor had not taken a decision on many bills for two years. With this, the court directed Attorney General R Venkataramani to ask the Governor's Secretary to read out the court's judgment in the case between the Punjab government and the Governor and to give a response. The Supreme Court judgment in the Punjab case was that the Governor does not have the power to indefinitely hold the bill without taking a decision or veto the bills passed by the Assembly.
