KANNUR: In a tragic incident, a one-and-a-half-year-old child died after being accidentally struck on the head while his grandmother was chopping firewood. The incident took place in Colony Nagar, Alakode, Kannur. The deceased has been identified as Dayal, the son of Vishnu Krishnan from Poovanchal. The tragedy occurred around 4 PM yesterday.
The accident happened at the home of Dayal’s mother, Priya. 80-year-old Narayani, the grandmother of Dayal, was chopping firewood when the child unintentionally came close and was struck by the billhook. Narayani was unaware that the child had come up behind her. When she swung the billhook, it accidentally hit the back of Dayal’s head. Narayani is completely blind in one eye.
Due to her poor eyesight, she did not see the child approaching. Priya was at home at the time of the incident. Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed in and took the child to the hospital, but his life could not be saved. Police stated that they will file a case of involuntary manslaughter against Narayani. Dayal's funeral will be held at 2 PM today in the family courtyard. He is survived by his sister, Deekshitha.
