Babu 's 27-year service in Block Office; An inspiring journey of overcoming challenges

PALA: KS Babu concluded his remarkable 27-year career as a clerk at the Kanjirappally block office leaving an indelible mark on Kerala's administrative landscape. Despite facing paralysis in his right arm and left leg due to polio at a young age, Babu's determination and resilience propelled him to excel in his role transforming the Kanjirappally block panchayat into the state's second people-friendly and first child-friendly block. Notably, he also contributed significantly to securing ISO recognition for the Kanjirapalli-Lalam blocks.

Beginning his tenure on January 13, 1997, Babu's journey to this milestone was arduous. Born to laborer parents, Sreedharan and Chellamma, Babu's family supported him in overcoming adversities including the loss of his younger sister Anita to polio. Despite these challenges after completing a BA in Economics, Babu secured a government job through the differently-abled reservation.

Babu's remarkable achievements extended beyond his professional sphere. Continuously pursuing education alongside his children, he recently obtained first-class degrees in MA History and Sociology. Notably, he and his daughters, Devalakshmi and Radhika accomplished this academic feat together. Presently, he is pursuing an MA in Politics at IGNOU University.

Despite his success, Babu faced obstacles in career advancement due to the lack of proper implementation of the four percent reservation for promotions for differently-abled individuals. Despite obtaining a favorable court order, the promotion wasn't executed leading Babu to retire as a Head Clerk on April 30, 2024, instead of potentially holding higher positions like Deputy Collector, RDO or ADC.

Babu's story serves as an inspiration showcasing resilience, dedication and an unwavering spirit in the face of adversity.
