'Rank holder, chateau-like house, properties worth crores'; Padmakumar's strange profile

KOLLAM: The arrested Padmakumar and his family have admitted doing the crime to overcome the dire financial straits. However, the dots are not connecting and are rather askew as the same Financially fallen Padmakumar has acres of land and property in his name. Even there are plenty of businesses being registered in his name.

Farmhouse

Spread over six and a half acres of land, the farmhouse has two small houses. It is a routine practice for Padmakumar to visit the farmhouse daily. Padmakumar, his wife and his daughter were at the Polachira coconut plantation farm in Chirakkara till 1 pm on Thursday. Later they left the house informing the housemaid Sheeba that they would return on Friday. However, at 12:30 pm on Friday, Padmakumar called Sheeba and informed them that they were stationed in Tamil Nadu and would not make their routine visit. Meanwhile, the police also conducted a search at the place on Friday.

Padmakumar's 'silent' mansion

Not many have seen such a chateau-like house in rural Chathannoor, like what Padmakumar built a few years ago. It was only in recent years, that many such posh houses started appearing in this area. The house is over 4,000 sq ft and rests on 10 cents of land. There are more than 5 rooms in the house. A garden is also set in the interlocking courtyard. The family is generally reclusive and is not on great terms with neighbours. The gate will remain closed at all times. Locals have never seen any relatives visiting the place. The house is located just 250 m from Chathanoor junction. The people here have noticed the white car used for the crime for the first time ever.

Padmakumar was one of the earliest computer engineers in Chathannoor region. He also ran a computer centre called Compuland years ago. Three decades ago, Padmakumar, who graduated from TKM Engineering College with a rank in computer engineering, went into business instead of accepting high-profile jobs.

Business

He dabbled in various businesses including fish stall, biryani trade and agriculture. When cable TV became a rave during its starting years, Padmakumar tried his hand at the business and saw success. His business also helped many people get jobs but during its heydays, for odd reasons, Padmakumar sold the firm.

Later he ventured into different fields like real estate, parcel biryani business, Matsya stall on Kummalloor road, agriculture in Tamil Nadu and bakery in Chathannoor. The bakery was working as usual yesterday. It is controlled by the employees and Padmakumar rarely comes to the shop at night.
