Kuttanad bids tearful adieu to four-member family killed in Kuwait fire accident

KUTTANAD: The hamlet of Thalavady gave a tearful adieu to the four family members killed during the fire accident in Abbasiya, Kuwait. Mathew Varghese (42, Jijo), wife Lini (37), daughter Irene (14) and son Isaac (11) were buried on Thursday at Padinjarekkara Mar Thoma Church Thalavady.

Many flocked to pay final respects to the family at Mulakkal house in Neerattupuram.

The mortal remains were brought to the private hospital mortuary in Thalavady on Tuesday and then to Mathew's newly built house at 3 am on Thursday. The funeral rites were conducted under the leadership of Fa: Sunil Mathew, former vicar of Thalavady Marthoma Church.

Emotional scenes ensued and tears welled up among the onlookers seeing Mathews's mother giving final kisses to the family members.

Matthew, a staff at Reuters, and Lini, a nurse, returned to Kuwait on July 19th with their children after spending vacation in Kerala. The horrific fire accident in their apartment took place on the 19th night.
