THRISSUR: Education Minister V Sivankutty on Tuesday said that it is not the government's policy to automatically improve quality by failing children. The minister's reaction came after the release of the audio recording of the Director of General Education criticizing the distribution of marks in the field of general education.
The minister also stated that the government policy is to protect and improve the general education sector. "It should not be seen as the government's position to critically comment on how to approach education in workshops that are held entirely internally. Government policy is to improve quality by including and involving all children. There is no intention to make any change in it.", he said.
'Kerala model of education is highly praised. Kerala also tops the national quality indices. Also international agencies like UNICEF have also appreciated Kerala's public education sector. The Public Education Department is trying to further improve the Kerala model.," Sivankutty added.
There was a criticism in the voice recording of the Director of General Education that even children who do not know how to read letters together get A+. The criticism was during the SSLC question paper preparation workshop.
