THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister Veena George has announced that the Mathruyanam scheme, which offers free transportation for mothers and newborns from government hospitals to their homes after delivery, has been implemented in all government hospitals where deliveries take place. The scheme has been implemented in 101 government hospitals where childbirth takes place. Nine medical colleges, forty-one district, general, women's, and children's hospitals, fifty taluk hospitals, and one social health centre are among these hospitals. The Minister added that this program will benefit all families, regardless of APL and BPL.

The project was implemented after conducting a trial run in all government hospitals where childbirth takes place. The long journey from hospital to home after delivery can be expensive. Many families cannot afford it. The scheme has been introduced to solve this problem. The government has directed hospitals to ensure this service to everyone after delivery.
