20-year-old woman arrested for killing newborn baby

PATHANAMTHITTA: The police said the death of a newborn baby in Thiruvalla is a murder. The police have arrested the baby’s mother Neethu of Mallapally in connection with the incident. The police said that she killed the baby after continuously pouring water on its face.

The woman delivered the baby in her hostel room last Friday. She kept the baby on her lap and then poured water continuously on its face. The post mortem report said the baby died after water entered its lungs. None in the hostel and her relatives did not know that she was pregnant.

Neethu told police that she got pregnant from her lover, a native of Thrissur. The police said they are investigating whether he is involved in the murder.
