KOTTAYAM: It is farewell for late CPI leader Kanam Rajendran as his mortal remains reached hometown Vazhoor by 2 am on Sunday. Thousands of people waited on the path even in the middle of the night to catch a last glimpse of their beloved leader and pay their last respects. The procession took several hours to pass through each point as people came in great numbers to pay homage.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Ministers, MLAs, and CPI Leaders including National Secretary D. Raja will visit Kanam’s house on Sunday morning to pay their last respect. On Saturday, Kanam Rajendran’s dead body was brought to the PS memorial in Pattom for people in the capital city to pay homage.
Tears welled up within onlookers who saw congress leader A K Antony consoling CPI leader D Raja, who broke down seeing Kanam. Ministers K. Rajan, P. Prasad, and G. R. Anil also failed to hold their tears. Thousands of people, regardless of political affiliation, waited in the family home and surrounding areas to catch a glimpse of Kanam for one last time.
