THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Director Dr Biju has stepped down from his position at the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) citing professional issues. His resignation comes amidst growing differences with chairman Ranjith who heads the film academy sparking controversies in the industry.
The discord between Dr Biju and Chairman Ranjith escalated following a public interview where Ranjith mocked Dr Biju's filmmaking abilities. Ranjith questioned Dr Biju's filmmaking credentials particularly referencing the poor theatrical performance of the movie "Adhrishyajalakangal," directed by Biju.
In response, Dr Biju retaliated strongly highlighting Ranjith's lack of international film festival participation beyond Kerala and Goa. He emphasized the success of "Adhrishyajalakangal" on Netflix where the film garnered significant viewership and critical acclaim. Dr Biju criticized Ranjith's judgment by revealing that the same film was initially rejected by Ranjith and a friend during the film festival selection process.
Dr Biju further underscored the overwhelming positive response the movie received at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) with sold-out shows and high demand among delegates. He asserted that Ranjith was not fit to judge a film's director based on audience reception at IFFK.
