NEW DELHI: A terrorist attack targeted a military trek in Jammu and Kashmir marking the second assault on the army in this region within a month. Additional forces have swiftly been dispatched to the scene as reports indicate ongoing firing in the area.
Last month, during an anti-terror operation at Kalakot in Rajouri, soldiers including two captains lost their lives. These attacks have contributed to the rising frequency of terrorist incidents in the region over the past few months.
Ten soldiers had previously fallen victim to terrorist attacks in April and May with the area witnessing a surge in militant activity between 2003 and 2021 marking a departure from years of relative calm. In the last two years alone around 35 soldiers have lost their lives during counter-terrorism operations.
