domestic

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Adani Group has prepared a plan to demolish the domestic airport terminal at Shankhummugam and build a new terminal with state-of-the-art facilities. The airport will be renovated to meet the needs of passengers up to 2070. The international terminal at Chacka will be expanded by 50,000 square feet. The airport authorities have sought permission from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security to create a special zone for domestic passengers. During the construction of the new terminal, the domestic services will be from the international terminal at Chacka. This year there were 13 lakh domestic passengers.

The airport serves 15000 passengers daily and more flight services are about to be launched. The terminal is being developed in this situation. There are also plans to build a five-star hotel in front of the international airport. This multi-storied five-star hotel will be located in the parking-toilet area in front of the international terminal. All major airports have such airport hotels. This hotel will be having 240 rooms and will have a food court that can seat 660 people at a time. The airport is situated on 628.70 acres of land. Space limitation is the main obstacle for the development of the airport.
