THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It has been decided what to do next with the Navakerala bus which the Chief Minister and ministers used for travelling. It has been decided to first display the bus to the public including in the capital and then rent it out. Navakerala bus will be available for hire for wedding needs, sightseeing, pilgrimage etc.
The bus is owned by KSRTC. The bus will be handed over to KSRTC after the Ernakulam tour of Navakerala sadas is completed. The maintenance of the bus is being done by KSRTC. It is said that the fare will be less than the private luxury tourist buses. The rate is yet to be decided. It is indicated that there is a discussion to charge up to eight thousand rupees per day.
The bus is likely to be handed over to KSRTC's budget tourism department. It is reported that so far more than 700 people have called the authorities asking if they can rent the bus. The bus was bought from Bharat Benz at a cost of 1.15 crores. The bus seats 25 people. Buses with toilets are few in the state.
