'Guru's path emphasizes unity and tolerance', says Ram Nath Kovind

SIVAGIRI: Former President Ram Nath Kovind emphasized the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru focusing on unity, humanity and tolerance during the centenary celebration of the Interfaith Conference. He underscored the Guru's role as a pioneer of India's revival movement highlighting the reflection of his vision in the fundamental rights safeguarded by the Constitution.

President Kovind stressed that the event not only commemorates the past but also serves as an inspiration for the future. He reiterated that all religions share core values such as love, kindness and compassion, emphasizing the equality among religions.

Sri Narayana Guru, known for perceiving mankind without distinctions believed that India's strength lies in its religious diversity, fostering mutual trust, respect and brotherhood. President Kovind likened the Guru's vision to Mahatma Gandhi's ideals of secularism and coexistence.

Sri Narayana Guru's advocacy against injustice and his stand for justice were highlighted by President Kovind. The Guru's teachings revolved around the unity of mankind through the concept of 'one caste, one religion, one God for man,' aligning with the basic values enshrined in the Constitution.

Emphasizing the universal doctrine of 'Vasudhaiva Kudumbakam,' President Kovind noted its influence on the Guru's thoughts. Swami Rithambarananda, Secretary of the Pilgrimage Committee highlighted the Guru's efforts in establishing religious schools to impart comprehensive knowledge about different faiths emphasizing the underlying unity among all religions.

President Kovind received a gift from Swami Subhangananda and Swami Rithambarananda from the Sivagiri Mutt while 'Gurudeva krithikal' was handed over by Swami Satchidananda during the celebration.

The event was graced by the presence of dignitaries including Adoor Prakash MP, Swami Satchidananda (President of Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust), Swami Subhangananda (General Secretary), Swami Asangananda Gurusmarana (Joint Secretary of Pilgrimage Committee) and Swami Saradananda (Treasurer of Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust).
