Accused of witchcraft; tribal woman set on fire in Assam

TEZPUR: In Assam, a tribal woman was brutally assaulted and set on fire after being accused of witchcraft. The murdered was identified as Sangeeta (30). Six people including a neighbor were arrested in the incident. The incident took place last night in Bahabari village. Suraj Bhagwar, who is Sangeetha's neighbour, got into an argument with Sangeeta after getting drunk. She was accused of practising witchcraft. Meanwhile, a group of six including Suraj attacked Sangeeta.

After tying up her husband, the gang brutally attacked Sangeeta with sharp weapons. The gang set Sangeeta on fire after stabbing her. She was taken to the hospital but could not be saved. The locals immediately informed the police. By the time the police arrived, the assailants escaped but were caught later. It is also being investigated whether the murder was due to witchcraft. It is reported that Sangeeta had practised witchcraft. After the postmortem, the body was handed over to the family.
