THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Milma will be starting 300 kiosks to drive away the drug gangs that have taken hold in school premises through sweets. The scheme will be implemented in 300 schools in the state this year. The plan is to set up the kiosk in the school compound. Products such as ice cream, zip up, peda, biscuits and milk will be available here.

The project started on a pilot basis by Malabar Milma was implemented in aided and unaided schools in November. If the proposal given to the education department is accepted, it will be implemented in government schools with the cooperation of the PTA. The action was taken following police reports that shops in the school premises were serving sweets containing intoxicating substances.

No cost to schools

This year all the three Milma unions in the state will start a fixed number of kiosks. The list for this is being prepared by Milma's marketing department. Milma will provide equipment worth Rs 1 lakh, including a specially designed kiosk, refrigerator and coffee vending machine. The operating school PTA earns fixed profit as dealer commission. The scheme is designed in such a way that one person gets a job.
