KANNUR: Archdiocese of Thalassery Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany said that the government has a responsibility to fulfil the election promise of Rs 250 for rubber. Joseph Pamplany said that the farmers will not back down from the demand of Rs 250 for rubber. If the demand is not met, the farmers themselves will come forward in the next election to bring down those who are sitting in the upper echelons. The promise made by the Chief Minister to the hill farmers has not been kept and it should be. Pamplany said the government has a responsibility to fulfil its election manifesto promise of Rs 250 for rubber.
'When the Navakerala Sadas came to Kannur, the Chief Minister invited me too. I did not go there to just drink coffee and tea. The Chief Minister said that our government is a government that fulfils its promises. I told the Chief Minister on that stage that even though you claim to have fulfilled your promises, there is a promise you made to the hill farmers and you have not kept it. Keep your word. You are being told by the people who took your word for it and voted for it. The government says there is no money. The government tries to silence us by saying that there is no money only when it comes to the farmer's problems. The government should come forward to pay the salaries of the government employees next month only after clearing the arrears of the farmers," Joseph Pamplany said.
