M Sivasankar diagnosed with condition of spinal column getting narrower, claims medical report

NEW DELHI: LIFE Mission case accused and former Principal Secretary to Chief Minister M Sivasankar, who is on bail due to health reasons, has been diagnosed with a condition where his spinal column gets narrower, according to a medical report. There is atrophy of the muscles of the right thigh. He cannot stand or walk for long periods. The report of the medical examination conducted at Puducherry Jipmer was submitted to the Supreme Court.

The case will be considered next week. The bench headed by Justice MM Sundaresh extended the interim bail till then. The court will hear the ED's position on the report that day.

In 2008, while kick-starting the scooter, Sivasankar felt pain in his right leg. According to the report, the back pain started after that. In January 2023, he injured his right knee. ED arrested him on February 14 in the LIFE Mission case. While in custody, he experienced numbness in his left arm up to his shoulder. He had surgery on his right knee last August. He then did physiotherapy as the back pain did not go away. Belts are used around his waist and neck, the report states.
