Deepfake fraud: Centre with decisive move

NEW DELHI: Union IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that strong action will be taken against deep fake fraud. The action is in the context of including even Sachin Tendulkar in the fraud. The minister informed that an amendment will be brought to the IT Act within eight days.

The incident is being treated very seriously. The law requires social media companies to take action on consumer complaints. If this is not effective, an amendment will be introduced. It is the responsibility of companies to prevent fraud and strict action will be taken if this is not implemented, he added.

Earlier, the Center had stated that strong action would be taken against the deep fake video circulated in the name of Sachin Tendulkar. The artificial intelligence video is circulating in the name of an online gaming company called Skyward Aviator Quest. Sachin Tendulkar's appearance and sound were featured in the company's advertisement. The video also says that Sachin Tendulkar's daughter Sara Tendulkar got income from the game. Earlier, those who spread the fake video of Rashmika Mandana were caught but the source of the video could not be found.
