'Jai Shri Ram, I wholely believe in God'; Nayanthara responds to controversy

Actress Nayanthara has issued an apology for the controversies related to her film 'Annapoorani'. The actress shared apology notes in various languages through her Instagram page. In her note, the actress stated that she is a person who believes in God and has never intended to hurt anyone's religious sentiments.

The note begins with the heading 'Jai Shri Ram.' The actress stated that she did not try to harm anyone's faith and that the film tried to convey a message that one can move forward undeterred in the face of adversity. Nayanthara also stated that she was surprised that the film approved by the Censor Board was withdrawn from the OTT platform.

"In our sincere attempt to share a positive message, we may have inadvertently caused hurt. We did not expect the removal of a censored film, previously showcased in theatres, from the OTT platform. My team and I never intended to hurt anyone's sentiments and we understand that the gravity of this issue. Being someone who wholely believes in God and frequently visits temples across the country, it is the last thing I would intentionally do. To those whose feelings we've touched, I extend my sincere and heartfelt apologies," the note read.

Nayanthara played the role of Annapoorani Rangarajan, the daughter of a temple priest in the film. The film courted controversy after a scene showed a character influencing Nayanthara's character to cut meat by claiming that Lord Ram consumed meat. The film also had another scene where the heroine offered namaz in hijab before cooking biryani. The film was removed from Netflix following protests by Hindu outfits. The police had also registered a case against Nayanthara.
