THRISSUR: Due to the delay in the government grant, the salaries of Kalamandalam employees for November were paid just during the last day. The delayed salary for December month will also be soon distributed to employees. Meanwhile, it is reported that the PF and insurance amount deducted from the salary has not been paid.
Kerala Kaumudi had reported on the 14th of this month that due to a delay in the grant, salary has been inaccurate for more than a year while Kalamandalam employees had to work for more than two months without salary.
In 2007, when it was made a de facto university, the permanent staff was increased but the grant was not proportionately increased. Kalamandalam also took a stance to not shut down courses with very few students. A certain number of teachers are also required for all these courses.
It is reported that the government is considering a detailed project report on making Kalamandalam a cultural university (Kerala Kalamandalam University for Arts and Culture). It is recommended to bring literature, music, drama, fine arts, folklore, film academies, government music, and fine arts colleges into the ambit of this university. During the last few days, a song, a humour-laced protest anthem titled ‘ Shambalamilalo Shambalamilalao’ started appearing in WhatsApp groups of Kalamandalam. There were also a few lines in the song that ridiculed Mallika Sarabhai, the Chancellor of Kerala Kalamandalam.
