MYSURU: A youth was arrested for killing and burying a teacher in Karnataka. The police arrested Nithish (22), a local and friend of the teacher from Hospet on Wednesday. The police said the rift in the relationship between the accused and the teacher led to the murder and they have got definite evidence for this.

Deepika V Gowda (28), a private school teacher went missing on Saturday. The family lodged a complaint with the police when Deepika did not return from school. She left school at noon. However, it was not clear where she went after this. Her mobile phone was switched off.

Deepika's scooter was found abandoned while the police were investigating the incident. They informed her family members and confirmed that it was her vehicle. They searched the area but no clues were found. Meanwhile, the police got a video clip recorded by a tourist from the incident site. The footage showed a woman and a youth fighting at the spot from where the scooter was found.

During an investigation at the place, soil was found removed from one place. Foul smell emanated from the place and this raised a suspicion. Later when examined found the body. After filing a missing complaint, her husband passed information about Nithish, a nearby resident, to the police. Her husband and family alleged that it was Nithish who called her last. The police then intensified search for him, but could not find him. His mobile phone was also switched off.

The two were in a relationship for two years. Deepika's relatives warned Nithish about this. They asked him to withdraw from the relationship. After this, it is reported that Deepika distanced herself from Nithish. Police said this led to the murder. It was Nithish’s birthday on the day the murder was committed. The police concluded that Nithish may have called Deepika to celebrate his birthday. Deepika was staying with her seven-year-old son and husband.
