Two Malayalis among three killed in blast at firecracker manufacturing unit in Karnataka

BENGALURU: At three people, including two Malayalis, died in an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Karnataka. Six people were injured. One of the injured is a Malayali. The blast took place at a firecracker factory in Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada. Two people were taken into police custody in connection with the incident.

The deceased Malayalis have been identified as Swami (55) and Varghese (68), who were working in the firecracker manufacturing unit. The firecracker factory is in the farm of Basheer, a native of Malappuram. The small building where the firecrackers were made was completely destroyed in the blast. Police said there were 9 people in the building at the time of the accident. The police are also checking whether the firm had a license under the name 'Solid Firework'.
