THIRUVALLA: Unable to bear the physical and mental harassment of her son addicted to alcohol, his mother attempted suicide by jumping into a rocky pool. Kunjamma Pappan (85) of Thiruvalla Kaviyoor Kottoor Nazhipara Ayyanakuzhi House, tried to commit suicide following her son Ravi's continuous harassment.

The incident happened last evening at 4 pm. Kunjamma said that her son, who comes home drunk, constantly harasses her. Kunjamma, who was injured in Ravi's attack a few months ago, was admitted to Thiruvalla Taluk Hospital by the neighbours. However, Kunjamma did not want to file a complaint against her son.

As usual, his abuse continued on Monday night also. Ravi, who left home yesterday morning, asked his mother to leave the house and go. Following that, she jumped into the rocky pool near her house. Kunjamma was rescued and brought to the shore by some women working nearby.

Kunjamma was admitted to Thiruvalla Taluk Hospital under the leadership of Kaviyoor grama panchayat president M D Dinesh Kumar, who reached the spot. Her health condition is satisfactory. A police team led by Thiruvalla sub inspector Vimal Ranganath reached the hospital and recorded her statement and filed a case against Ravi.
