WAYANAD: Just days after the death of wild tusker Thaneer Komban, another elephant entered the human habitat in Wayanad and brutally trampled a man to death on Saturday. Ajeesh from the Padamala region is the deceased. The elephant with a radio collar fixed by the Karnataka government entered the human habitat by early Saturday morning.

Ajeesh jumped into the courtyard of another house to escape but fell onto the ground suddenly. The elephant smeared in dust broke the gate and then trampled him to death. Ajeesh’s mortal remains are currently kept at Mananthavady Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, people are protesting at the hospital and are demanding that the elephant be shot immediately. The protesters did not even allow the body to be moved from the emergency department to the morgue.

The forest department received the information about the elephant coming down around 4.30 am on Saturday. Section 144 has been imposed in four wards of Wayanad. It was on last Friday that another elephant Thaneer Komban ventured into the human habitat in Mananthavady. After some herculean efforts, the elephant was then tranquillized and sent to Bandipur where it died mysteriously.
