THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister G. R. Anil directed the immediate distribution of rice for the midday meal scheme in schools. The decision comes after a detailed discussion with Minister V. Sivankutty.
Supplyco stopped the supply of rice to schools after the education department did not pay dues. Following this, the ministers held a discussion. Supplyco should urgently procure fourth-quarter rice from FCI for the project. Officials from the Directorate of Public Education and SUPPLYCO have been tasked with duties to make rice available to schools experiencing shortages.
The meeting also decided to write to the Union Ministry of Education for permission to use the 'Kerala Kuthari' rice produced in the state for a mid-day meal scheme. Public Education, Food and Public Distribution Department officials and Supplyco representatives attended the meeting.
