Kudumbashree launches 'Nirapolima 2024' and 'Onakkani 2024' initiatives for Onam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kudumbashree to prepare flowers for Onapookkalam and toxin free vegetables for Sadya. Floriculture initiative 'Nirapolima 2024' and 'Onakani 2024' for production of non-toxic vegetables will be launched in the state today. Minister MB Rajesh will inaugurate both the projects at the state level at 10.30 am at the Perungadavila junction.

In the project to provide employment opportunities to women farmers of Kudumbashree, marigold, jasmine, chendumalli and globe amaranth will be cultivated in a thousand acres. Technical assistance and marketing channels will be set up by the Agriculture Department. Presently 3350 farmer groups are cultivating flowers in 1250 acres.

Also, to provide non-toxic vegetables and fruits, 2500 hectares of pulses, bitter gourd, ladies finger, snake gourd, banana, spinach, yam, tomato, brinjal, moringa, mango and chillies will be cultivated this year. The agricultural products are directly brought to the public market by the farmers.

Presently under Kudumbashree 11298 farmer groups are cultivating vegetables in 2000 hectares. 25,000 women farmers in the state are expected to provide livelihood through vegetable cultivation, including 20,000 this year and 5,000 during the Onam season through flower cultivation.

Apart from special occasions like Onam, Christmas, Vishu and Ramzan, all the marketing fairs organized under the auspices of Kudumbashree will provide an opportunity to bring agricultural products and get marketing.
