THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a move to hike the prices of 13 essential items in Supplyco of the state. Even when the prices of commodities in the public market are increasing, the common people rely entirely on SupplyCo. The new move is amidst this. However, the prices of items in SupplyCo will be 35 percent less than the price of goods in the public market. The subsidy on goods was reduced to 35 % from 70 %.
The prices of moong dal, black gram, van payar, chickpeas, sambar parippu, red chilly, coriander, sugar, coconut oil, rice etc are going to increase. There will be a hike of Rs 3 to over Rs 46. There is a steep hike of Rs 46 for sambar parippu. Only Rs 3 has been hiked for pachari.
Meantime, the prices of Jaya, Matta and Kuruva commonly used by Malayalees, have also gone up in SupplyCo. The price of Jaya has been increased by Rs 4 and Rs 5 for matta and Kuruva.

Moong dal Rs 93, black gram Rs 95, chickpeas Rs 70, van payar Rs 76, sambar parippu Rs 111, chilly, Rs 82, coriander Rs 39, sugar Rs 28, coconut oil Rs 55, Jaya rice Rs 29, matta Rs 30 and pachari Rs 26.
This is the first time since 2016 that Supplyco has increased the prices of goods. The Left had given the green signal to increase the price of items in SupplyCo. The civil supplies department was forced to increase the prices when Supplyco took a tough stand that it could not continue in the current way. Following the hike, the public had protested in a big way.
