Mission to capture Belur Maghna enters sixth day; signal obtained from radio collar

PANAVALLY: The mission to capture Belur Magna, the wild tusker that attacked and killed a man in Mananthavady has entered the sixth day. The signal was received from the radio collar fitted on the elephant.


The elephant is presently in Panavally Emmatty forest area. The elephant reached Panavally last night. The mission team has entered the forest. Forest department chief veterinary surgeon Dr Arun Zacharia has reached the spot. Belur Magna stationed at Manivayal Ammakkavu area of Tirunelli yesterday. Though the mission team came close to the elephant twice, they could not tranquilize it.


Belur Magna was released into the Molahalli forest by the Karnataka Forest Department on November 30 after fitting the radio collar. Six days ago, the elephant took the life of Ajeesh, a farmer, near the tourist center of Kuruva Island.
