PULPALLY: The people of Wayanad are in the grip of fear again after a tiger killed a calf in Wayanad. The tiger killed a calf tied in the shed of Eldhos of Aikkarakudy Aashramakolly. The footprints of the tiger were found near the shed. On the previous day, a tiger had come to the neighbouring area of Ambathiyar and killed another calf.

Meantime, the police registered a case in the protest staged in Pulpally yesterday. A case has been registered against around 100 known people. The action is for blocking the

body, attacking the vehicle of the forest department and for manhandling the officials. The locals protested for four and a half hours yesterday with the body of temporary forest watcher V P Paul, killed by a wild tusker near Kuruva Island on Friday.

The body was brought to Pulpally after post-mortem at Kozhikode Medical College at 9.40 am on Saturday. When they reached the bus stand area, they stopped the ambulance and protested.

The locals protested demanding Rs 50 lakh compensation for Paul's family, job, daughter's education and debt waiver. They surrounded the jeep of the forest department and manhandled deputy range officer Shaji. The protestors kicked him on his chest. Deflated the tyres of the jeep. Tore the roof and a wreath was placed on top of the jeep.

Meanwhile, a team came in a tractor carrying the body of the cow killed by the tiger. Kept the body in the bonnet of the jeep of the forest department. The MLAs requested to allow them to lay Paul's body to rest as it is bleeding, but the protesters did not relent.
