Death of woman and baby during delivery: Woman’s husband tries to attack acupuncturist, in station

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police grilled Shihabudeen, the acupuncturist, responsible for the death of a woman and her baby, and her husband, together. In the meanwhile, the woman’s husband tried to attack Shihabudeen in the police station. The police then pushed him to one side. Shihabudeen was taken for a medical examination. His arrest will be registered soon after completing the other procedures.

The woman and her baby died while giving birth at her house in Karakkamandapam. The woman has been identified as Shameera Beevi (36) of Palakkad. Shihabudeen, who performed the acupuncture treatment for Shameera is in police custody. Her husband Nayas (47) of Poonthura was arrested for denying proper medical treatment to the woman. He had confessed to the police that she was given acupuncture treatment. Nayas’ first wife and daughter were with them at the time of the incident. Minister V Sivankutty and health workers, who visited the spot said that Nayas’ daughter is studying acupuncture treatment. Police said the postmortem report said that Shameera and her baby died after not getting treatment.
