KALPATTA: PVC pipe ammunition has arrived from Maharashtra to deter wild animals. Sellers claim it's a new system effective for driving away wildlife, including deer. Farmers are purchasing it in hopes of protecting their farms from animal intrusions.
Despite many households storing firecrackers, wild animals still venture near farms unaffected. In response, PVC ammunition has been introduced.
The device consists of a one-meter-long pipe with a hole in the middle, capped at the back, and equipped with a gas lighter. Carbide powder is placed in the hole and mixed with water to generate gas, creating a loud crackling sound and smoke when ignited. It's expected that the sound will scare off wild animals. Priced at 250 rupees each, they can be reused like guns.
While this method was attempted years ago, animals grew accustomed to the sound, making it less effective. Now reintroduced, farmers like Matthew are hopeful for success. If effective, it would be a significant achievement.
