Cristiano Ronaldo handed suspension and hefty fine for obscene gesture to Messi chants during match

RIYADH: Portugal and Al-Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for making an obscene gesture during a match in the Saudi Football Pro League. Along with the suspension for one game in the league, he'll also have to pay a fine of 30,000 Saudi Riyals. The Saudi Pro League Disciplinary Committee has made it clear that the decision is not open for appeal.

Ronaldo's obscene gesture appeared to be aimed at the fans of Al-Shabab for 'Messi Messi' chants. As the footage of this went viral on social media, the demand for action against the star intensified. It's not the first time the 39-year-old made a similar gesture towards the fans. In April 2023, during a match against Al-Hilal, Ronaldo could be seen grabbing his genitals in response to 'Messi...Messi' chants.
