Girl abduction case: Attempt to murder charge on Hassan apart from POCSO

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hassan, the accused in the girl abduction case in Pettah, had committed a similar type of crime months ago. He slipped and fell down while trying to abduct a child of a nomadic couple, sleeping on the roadside at Polayathodu in Kollam. The nomads then caught and thrashed him. Meanwhile, the police reached the spot but the accused escaped as the nomads did not file a complaint.

The accused is likely to be produced in court today. He will be taken to the place from where he abducted the child to collect evidence. The police have charged POCSO case and also attempt to murder charges against him. Even after remanding the accused, the police will seek his custody. The two-year-old girl whom he abducted and her siblings are under the care of Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The police will also take steps to release them to their parents.

The accused Hassan Kutty (Kabeer) was arrested from Kollam Sunday morning. He was wearing the same dress worn on the day of the incident. He told police that he abducted her in her sleep and when she woke up crying, he covered her mouth and soon she lost consciousness. He abandoned the child fearing that she had died.
