PATHANAMTHITTA: DYFI leader Jaison Joseph, accused in the case of assaulting a law student, has surrendered. Police faced criticism for not arresting Jaison, the first accused in the case. After this, he surrendered to the police.
Supreme Court had earlier rejected the bail plea of CPM Perunad area committee member Jaison. He was also expelled from the law college. After the dramatic events, the college management expelled Jaison.
The youth congress members had locked up the principal-in-charge demanding immediate expulsion of Jaison from the college for the protection of the complainant student.
The incident happened in the college on December 20. Initially, the police did not register a case on the complaint that Jason assaulted the student. Police lodged an FIR when the Youth Congress workers protested by sitting at the station.
