What was SBI doing 26 days after the verdict? Petition dismissed; SC directs to hand over electoral bond information by Tuesday

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has toughened its stance on the electoral bond case. SBI can solve this problem easily. The bank must provide the documents if requested by the court. The court also asked what the bank was doing 26 days after the verdict cancelling the electoral bond.

Supreme Court's criticism came while considering a petition filed by SBI seeking an extension till June 30 to hand over information about those who donated to political parties through election bonds. The court rejected the petition and directed that the information be handed over tomorrow. The same bench presided over by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud which had issued the judgment on February 15 heard the petition today.

The court stated that sincerity is expected from the part of the bank. The court opened the sealed envelope provided by the Election Commission during the hearing.

The court also said that the information provided by the political parties to the Election Commission will be made public. At this time when the country is waiting for the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections, the position of the Supreme Court is crucial.
