THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Chief Minister K Karunakaran's daughter Padmaja Venugopal joined the BJP last week. This was a big shock in state politics. Meanwhile, BJP state president K Surendran is claiming that more Congress leaders will soon join the BJP in Kerala.
K Surendran said that prominent Congress leaders will join the BJP on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kerala. The Prime Minister will be visiting the state as part of the Lok Sabha election campaign.
Surendran claimed that not only Congress leaders but also the prominent leaders of the Left Front will join the BJP in the coming days. Surendran said that the left and right fronts are trying to build ties with the BJP publicly after realising that the BJP has emerged as a major force in many constituencies and is likely to win in some of them.
"The LDF and UDF are trying for tie-ups with the BJP in various constituencies where the NDA has a chance of winning. Prominent leaders are coming to BJP in the coming days," Surendran said.
The BJP president's claim has become a major headache for the Congress leadership, especially at a time when the CPM is campaigning by pointing out that Congress leaders are leaving the party and joining the BJP.
