THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After new guidelines for issuing driving licenses, Minister KB Ganesh Kumar is planning more reforms in the Motor Vehicle Department.

There will be a change in the learner's exam pattern. A learner's test can be passed by getting 12 of the 20 questions correct. Now onwards the number of questions may be increased from 20 to 30. The minister also clarified that one can pass the exam only if 25 of the 30 questions are answered correctly. It has also been decided not to grant more than twenty licenses from one office in a day. The minister said that an order clarifying this matter will be issued soon.

There was also a report that KSRTC driving schools are going to come up at government expense. The school will conduct driving training and test for license. If KSRTC starts driving schools, it will be a challenge for other private driving schools. The driving school will be started in KSRTC-owned places. As per reports, 23 places have been found for this purpose. The idea is to start the driving school in Malappuram first.

KSRTC has decided to start 10 schools, with modern facilities, within two months. Light motor vehicles, like car and jeep, will be taught at these institutions. The drivers of KSRTC will be trained for this. There is also a plan to conduct the license test at these centres. This will be implemented before April 1 when the revised driving test starts. KSRTC CMD Pramoj Shankar has been tasked to give a detailed report for the same.
