NEW DELHI: A total of 97 crore voters in the country will vote for the 18th Lok Sabha elections. Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar informed that 10.5 lakh polling booths have been organized for this purpose. Out of this there are 49.7 crore males and 47.1 crore females. The Election Commissioner said that there are 1.8 crore maiden voters. The commission also stated that 1.5 crore polling officers have been appointed to control the polling booths. 48,000 transgender voters also cast their votes.
He informed that he has directly spoken to 800 District Magistrates and has personally seen and evaluated all the preparations and is fully prepared for the elections. Wheelchairs, medical facilities, drinking water and toilets will be provided at the polling booths. Election Commission said in a press conference that those above 85 years of age and those with more than 40 percent disability can avail the vote from home facility.
