IDUKKI: The Forest department has initiated a case against two for heedlessly taking photos in front of the rogue elephant ‘Kattakomban’, infamous for trampling two people to death in Munnar. A case has been registered against Senthil and Ravi, natives of Old Munnar, under the Wildlife Protection Act.
The forest department was alerted about the incident after the daredevil video shot by the youngsters went viral across the internet. Senthil posed for the video while Ravi managed the camera. The youngsters after taking the video uploaded the same on their social media accounts.
It was four days before that ‘Kattakomban’ descended the Sevenmallay Tea Estate region instilling fear in the residents in these regions. Locals of Munnar, acclimatized to the occasional visit of such elephants, are now practising more caution since they term ‘ Kattakomban’ as the most rogue of all and say that the pachyderm can be very dangerous if provoked.
There were also several requests to the forest department, from social media users as they deemed the reckless action of the youngsters to be something that invited chaos.
