NEW DELHI: Supreme Court interim order granting new symbol to NCP Sharad Pawar party. The symbol is a 'Man blowing turhan'. The Supreme Court also ordered that the NCP Ajit Pawar faction can use the clock symbol.
The interim order will continue until the court decides the case. The temporary order of the Supreme Court is in view of the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, the Supreme Court had directed Sharad Pawar's party to use Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar' as its name
The Election Commission had come to the conclusion that Ajit Pawar's side was the real NCP based on the calculation of 'legislative majority' and as a result suggested that the NCP's official symbol, the clock, could also be used by the faction.
With this, there was a suggestion that the new symbol and name of Sharad Pawar's party should be informed to the commission. After that, the election commission allowed the symbol of a 'man blowing turha'. The order was issued after the commission informed the Supreme Court about this.
In July 2023, after falling out with Sharad Pawar, Ajith became part of the Shinde government with a group of MLAs. NCP officially split with this and the question of which one is the official party was raised afterwards.
