THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: District collector Geromic George IAS assured about introducing new safety measures to avoid accidents like the horrific ones that happened in Vizhinjam and Panavila junction in recent days. The collector was speaking to the media after the all-party meeting held in the background of the incident in which BDS student Ananthu died after a stone fell from a Taurus lorry.

The police and the motor vehicle department will conduct fitness tests of the vehicles. For this, the Adani Ports authorities should submit the list of tippers used in port construction to the police.

  • Tippers will be completely stopped from entering the road during the peak hours of 8 to 10 am.
  • A special squad of the Motor Vehicle Department will be tasked to check overloading.
  • Truck tonnage as per current law will be allowed.
  • For this, there will be an inspection at the place of loading and unloading of the load.
  • The port company will be asked not to pay the contractor if the tippers come with overload.
  • The police and the district administration will discuss the guidelines related to the security arrangements and prepare them within two days
  • The qualifications of the drivers will be checked. It has also been decided to provide training to the drivers.
