EC sends notice to LDF candidate V S Sunilkumar for photo gaffe involving actor Tovino Thomas

THRISSUR: The Election Commission on Saturday issued a notice to VS Sunilkumar, LDF candidate from Thrissur, for inappropriately using actor Tovino Thomas’ photo for election campaigning. Thrissur Sub-Collector Mohammad Shafiq has handed over the notice to CPI in this regard. The EC in the notice has asked the candidate to not repeat the gaffe.

EC sent the notice after hearing the explanation of VS Sunilkumar and the CPI district secretary in the case of heedlessly using the photo of actor Tovino for campaigning purposes.

It was actor Tovino, who first cried foul over his photo being used in the election campaigning. Tovino is the brand ambassador of the Election Commission and it is considered illegal to use his photo for election campaigning. V S Sunilkumar deleted the photo just moments after the actor came up with the request. However, considering the violation done, NDA had filed a complaint against Sunilkumar to the collector.

Sunilkumar had earlier responded about being unaware of Tovino’s role as the ambassador of the Election Commission. The LDF candidate also apologized for the gaffe.
