S Rajendran clarifies speculations, denies BJP rumours, opens up on recent controversies

Until three years ago, S Rajendran was the face of the CPM in the plantation sector. In 2006, S Rajendran entered the Legislative Assembly after ousting the Congress leader A K Mani, who had monopolized the constituency since 1991. His success was repeated in 2011 and 2016. He is currently estranged from the party and there are strong rumors that he will join the BJP. S Rajendran spoke to Kerala Kaumudi on this occasion.

It is heard that you will go to BJP?

All such news are baseless. I am still with the Left.

What was the meeting with Prakash Javadekar about?

One of my brothers is in the national executive of the OBC wing of the BJP. Prakash Javadekar was invited to his younger sister's wedding. I went with my brother to fix the date and send the invitation.

Didn't think the meeting would be controversial?

I have not been active in the party for some time. Not even a membership now. I thought it was okay to go. This question is relevant if he was an active worker. We have been friends since he was a minister. He came home earlier. Went in that relationship. Don't look political.

Is the photo with Javadekar released by BJP?

I don't think it was released by the BJP. There were only four of us. This photo was sent to other relatives. It is possible to get out of there.

Did the Chief Minister call after the incident?

I don't want to say that. Many called. They have more right and authority than anyone else to ask why I went.

What is the obstacle to return to the party even after the suspension period?

Two years have passed since the suspension period. Kodiyeri had then said to withdraw the suspension before the expiry of the term. It did not happen because of some interference that day. I am not the one who wants to put the party in crisis. Ready to lose a thousand times to the party.

Did M M Mani abuse you many times?

MM Mani is clean-minded. He was used by some as a tool against me. Mani Aasan also know that. Those in charge of Munnar are behind it. I have not filed any complaint against him.

Do you feel that the party is not giving you the position you deserve?

I don't want any position. All I can say is don't insult.

Can a CPM member join the BJP?

BJP has invited me long ago. Not only BJP but also Congress and CPI have called. Nitish Kumar's party came to his house and invited him. There has been nothing but friendly conversation.

Will you be campaigning for Joyce?

It cannot be said in two words. I am not against Joyce or LDF.

If you are not active in the party, where will you be seen?

So no one can give any guarantee. Those who can take my word for it that I'm not going anywhere else can take it. Even the government certificate is valid for six months.
